Adolfo Bimer

Adolfo Bímers practice investigates how production in the medical world and image systems represent the human body and how this affects the view we have of ourselves. He creates paintings that haunt us with haptic surfaces and alarmingly vivid, tumor-like formations, expressing simultaneously strength and fragility. His work produces recognizable, emotive images that scientific explanation often fails to convey. Starting from a profound interest in the interior of our bodies and also in the function and symbolism of the skin, Bimer makes images charged with emotion, scientifically founded on our pulsating organism.
Adolfo Bímer has a degree in Visual Art, with a major in Painting, from the University of Chile and took courses in Philosophy and Art History at Ultrecht Universiteit in the Netherlands. Throughout his career, he has won awards, scholarships and was granted publications and residencies, such as «Revolver Gallery Artist in Residence program» in Lima, 2012; “Fondart Nacional Open Window Art Residences” in Chile, 2014; «ISCP International Studio and Curatorial Program» in New York, 2014-2015; “Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion” in Cleveland, 2015; «The Museum» in Leipzig, 2016; «HANGAR Centro de Investigação Artística» in Lisbon, 2019; and «ATM Residency» in Asturias, 2019. Since 2014, he is co-director of the Chilean arts organization Sagrada Mercancía, an independent space in the center of Santiago, focused on promoting projects and discussions around contemporary art.

La práctica de Adolfo Bímer indaga en cómo los sistemas médicos de producción e imagen representan el cuerpo humano y cómo esto índice en la imagen social que tenemos de nosotros mismos. Adolfo Bimer crea pinturas que nos acechan con sus inquietantes superficies hápticas y formaciones similares a tumores que resultan alarmantemente vivas, que enfrentan una fuerza y una fragilidad simultánea. Su obra representa el tipo de imaginería emotiva y reconocible que las explicaciones científicas a menudo no logran transmitir. Partiendo de un profundo interés no sólo en el interior de nuestros cuerpos, sino también en la función y el simbolismo de la piel, Bimer transporta una imagen cargada de emoción y al mismo tiempo científicamente fundada sobre nuestro pulsante organismo.
Adolfo Bímer es licenciado en Arte Visuales, con mención en Pintura, por la Universidad de Chile y tomó cursos de Filosofía e Historia del Arte en Ultrecht Universiteit en Holanda. A lo largo de su carrera ha sido premiado con galardones, becas, publicaciones y residencias como “programa de artista en Residencia galería Revolver” en Lima, 2012; “Fondart Nacional Ventanilla Abierta modalidad Residencias Artísticas“ en Chile, 2014; “ISCP International Studio and Curatorial Program” en Nueva York, 2014-2015; “Cleveland Foundation’s Creative Fusion” en Cleveland, 2015; “The Museum” en Leipzig, 2016; “HANGAR Centro de Investigação Artística” en Lisboa, 2019; y “Residencia ATM” en Asturias, 2019. Desde el 2014, es co-director de la organización artística chilena Sagrada Mercancía, un espacio independiente en el centro de Santiago, enfocado en promover proyectos y la discusión en torno al arte contemporáneo.
