Kepa Garraza

Kepa Garraza’s work reflects on the nature of the images we consume on a daily basis. Through fictitious scenarios, where a parallel reality is recreated, it invites the viewer to issues related to identity and manipulation of information. His work questions official speeches and the processes of institutional legitimation. His ironic and acid look offers alternatives to the reality we know and provides a healthy exercise: always doubt the official version.
He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country. In 2000 he was awarded an Erasmus scholarship that allowed him to complete his academic training at Bradford Art College in England. In 2002 he studied at the University of Barcelona thanks to a Seneca scholarship. In 2003 he finished his Bachelor of Fine Arts. He burst onto the national scene around 2004. Since then, he has exhibited individually in the Sala Rekalde and in galleries in Madrid, Bilbao, Dusseldorf, Rotterdam, Beijing and New York. In addition to private Spanish and international collections, his work is present in the collections of the Artium, the Community of Madrid and the Contemporary Art Collection of the Patio Herreriano Museum.

La obra de Kepa Garraza reflexiona acerca de la naturaleza de las imágenes que consumimos a diario. Mediante escenarios ficticios donde se recrea una realidad paralela, invita al espectador a cuestionarse problemáticas relacionadas con la identidad y la manipulación de la información. Su obra cuestiona los discursos oficiales, y pone en tela de juicio los procesos de legitimación institucional. Su mirada irónica y acida ofrece alternativas a la realidad que conocemos y nos propone un ejercicio saludable: dudar siempre de la versión oficial.
Estudia Bellas Artes en la Universidad del País Vasco. En el año 2000 se le concede una beca Erasmus que le permite completar su formación académica en el Bradford Art College de Inglaterra. En el año 2002 estudia en la Universidad de Barcelona gracias a una beca Séneca. En el 2003 termina su licenciatura en Bellas Artes. Irrumpió en la escena nacional hacia 2004. Desde entonces, ha expuesto de forma individual en la Sala Rekalde y en galerías Madrid, Bilbao, Dusseldorf, Rotterdam, Beijing o Nueva York. Además de en colecciones privadas españolas e internacionales, su obra está presente en la colecciones del Artium, la Comunidad de Madrid o la Colección Arte Contemporáneo del Museo Patio Herreriano.
